Desmond Dias elected unopposed as Cavelossim sarpanch

Desmond Dias was elected the sarpanch to the village of Cavelossim unopposed on Wednesday, after former sarpanch Dionizio Dias stepped down from the post last week. Of the seven panch members, four were in attendance and Dias was the only panch who had filed his nomination for the post. 

Presiding officer Maya Nagarsekar was present for the entire process of the election and announced the sarpanch was elected unopposed after following the election process schedule. 

Speaking to this daily after taking the up post, sarpanch Desmond Dias said his and the panchayat’s main aim were three-fold: to complete development projects, to listen to people’s grievances and resolve them and to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID. 

“The process of development must continue and there are many projects that need to be followed up at the respective government departments. These include projects under the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP). I would also like to listen to people’s grievances and try to resolve them without the need to be taken to higher authorities,” said Dias. 

He further added, “There are many residents in the village who are still hesitant to take the vaccine. I would like to encourage as many people to take the vaccine and help us in this fight against the virus. There are many who are still hesitant to take the vaccine, but we would like to encourage them also to take the vaccine.”
