State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Sadanand Tanawade on Tuesday said that if there is more than one aspirant in some constituencies desiring to contest the 2022 state assembly polls on the BJP candidature, then this situation should be viewed positively.
“It means that the party has successfully expanded itself in the state,” he reckoned, observing that however if such ambitious leaders rebel against the party, then the same would be handled adequately at that particular time.
Former Panaji MLA Sidharth Kunkalienkar was the recent BJP leader to express his desire to contest the particular election.
Addressing a press conference in the city following the state executive meet of the BJP, Tanawade also said that his party at this point of time is ready to contest the assembly elections on its own strength.
“However, there are some constituencies in which the BJP is vulnerable, and therefore could forge in such constituencies, an alliance with an independent candidate,” he added, pointing out that the central leadership of the party will take decision about such alliances.
Applauding Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for successfully handling the second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the state, rising up to occasion to manage the damage caused by the ‘Tauktae’ cyclone that hit Goa, and successfully leading the party to a victory at the recent municipal polls in the state, the one-day state executive meet of the BJP held in the city condemned the “machinations and false propaganda” against the BJP government, and expressed its
confidence in the state leadership.
A political resolution passed at the meet also noted that the government has adopted financial discipline coupled with proactive measures in the administration and has put more emphasis on making the common Goan self-reliant by rolling out schemes like Chief Minister’s apprentice scheme and seafarers pension scheme.
The meet discussed a number of issues including the pandemic, the damages caused by the cyclone in Goa and the forthcoming assembly polls.
It also discussed organisational preparations in the state for this election.
The Chief Minister attended the meet and also addressed the participants.
National general secretary of the BJP and its Goa desk in-charge C T Ravi could not make it to the meet and interacted with the participants through virtual mode.
He, however, is expected to attend the North Goa and South Goa district executive meets of the party, to be held on July 2 and July 3, respectively.
Later addressing a press conference, state BJP general secretary Narendra Sawaikar said the second wave of the pandemic created an unprecedented situation before the government, and every one of us has learnt something from this experience.
It was also informed that at least two more state executive meetings of the BJP will be held before the assembly polls, which could decide on the issues to be taken up by the party for the said election.
