Former chief minister and senior BJP leader Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said that any political party can form its government by ‘importing’ MLAs from other political party, but in no way grow through such acts.

“I am not ready to believe that the BJP in Goa has grown by way of importing MLAs from other political parties,” Parsekar reckoned,  pointing out that there are other proper ways of expanding the party.

“In fact, the BJP had already grown in the state before the arrival of the ten imported legislators,” he noted.

Parsekar, who attended the state executive meet of the BJP in the city on Tuesday, later told media persons that winnability and adaptability of a person with the party are important factors while deciding the candidature for an election.

“I am a serious claimant for the candidature of my party for the 2022 state assembly elections in the Mandrem constituency,” he stressed, appealing to the central leadership of the BJP to consider his appeal.

Parsekar also recalled that when the BJP began its electoral journey in Goa, it could find candidates to contest in only 11 constituencies.

“At that time, if we had found rest 29 candidates, then the party could have fielded its candidates in all constituencies,” he said.
