Curchorem: Sanvordem MLA and PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Sunday laid the virtual foundation of a ramp to be constructed on the Dudhsagar River at Collem during a function held at Girish Bhavan at Sanvordem on Sunday.
Those who were present on the occasion included SE of PWD Badrani, C E Mhapne, sarpanch of Collem VP Gangaram Lambor and others.
Speaking on the occasion Pauskar said the ramp will be constructed at a cost of Rs 72 lakh. There was a dire need of construction of the ramp because every day about 430 jeeps pass through the river from Collem to Dudhsagar waterfalls.
Every year more than 4 lakh national and international tourists visit this site. The river water which is being supplied to Opa water treatment plant gets polluted due to the leakage of oil, diesel and petrol from the vehicles passing through the water.
There was also heavy dust pollution on both sides due to the absence of a proper road. Now the government has sanctioned a project of Rs 23 crores wherein interlocking pavers will be laid on the road from Collem side to the river and from the other side to the waterfalls, he said.
He further added that the central government has sanctioned Rs 100 crores for the construction of various developmental projects in the state. Under Jal Jeevan mission project, water connection will be provided at a payment of only Rs 500 to the families coming under
BPL and APL category. He appealed to the families other than APL and BPL category to contact the Swayampurna Mitra provided by the government to each village panchayat. By 2022 all the proposed projects will be completed, he said.
