Deputy chief minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar inaugurated the construction work of a retaining wall near Our Lady of Immaculate Conception school in Avedem which is expected to cost Rs 15.10 Lakh.
The inauguration of the work was blessed by Fr Agnelo in the presence of Zilla Panchayat Member from Avedem Sidharth Desai, sarpanch Alleluia Alphonso, deputy sarpanch Gauresh Gaunkar, panch member Sangeeta Prabhudesai, panch Vital Olivera, Gajanan Prabhudesai, Pascalin Fernandes, Oscar Moraes, Nitin Prabhudesai, PTA Chairman Rosario, PWD JE Pravin Naik and AE Sharad Vernekar.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavlekar said the work had been a long pending one. “This work involved some complications but, I personally looked into it and saw to it that it starts. I am happy that whatever was promised is being fulfilled.”
Speaking further on the Covid-19 awareness in Quepem, he also appealed to the people to get tested, vaccinated and also asked to maintain COVID appropriate behaviour. Speaking regarding the facilities offered at COVID step up hospital at Quepem he said, “oxygen and all required facilities are there to make every Quepemkar who is admitted there feel at home. Those who don’t have separate isolation rooms at home may use the facility too with doctor’s consultation.”
Amongst the other facilities provided for COVID management in Quepem Kavlekar also said that there was round the clock fleet of five vehicles to pick and drop patients from their homes to the hospital or back. He also informed of a one of its kind initiative in Goa called ‘Oxygen On Wheels’ where a van fitted with oxygen concentrators and generators is ready for service on call 24 hours a day. “The van is a unique initiative as when a patient is in need of oxygen, the generators can power the units in case of power failure which was a regular feature in Quepem taluka after the devastation caused by Cyclone Taukte,” said Kavlekar.
