High Court directs lower court to redact references to victim in Tarun Tejpal’s acquittal order

Digital Goa, May 27 – High Court today heard the appeal by the State of Goa against the acquittal of Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal in the 2013 rape case filed against him by a lady colleague. The court ordered Additional Sessions Judge, who acquitted former Tejpal of rape charges, to redact the references to the identity of the victim and her family members in the judgment. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for the State along with Advocate General Devidas Pangam in the matter. Mehta brought it to the notice of the court that the judgment reveled the prosecutrix’s identity by making references to her email id and her husband’s name. “So also the reference to the name of the mother of the prosecutrix mentioned therein may be redacted,” the High Court ordered. The matter will be now be heard on June 2.
