Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant have extended warm greetings to the Goans across the globe on the occasion of Goa’s Statehood Day.
Governor, in his message, said it was May 30, 34 years ago, that Goa transformed from a Union Territory to a state of the Indian Union. The journey towards statehood was long and arduous that began with the Opinion Poll in 1967, wherein it was decided to maintain Goa as a separate and distinct entity. On this happy occasion, let us remember with gratitude all the leaders, intellectuals and the people of Goa who have contributed towards the achievement of statehood, which is a very important milestone in the political history of the state.
He said the state of Goa has been making impressive strides in fulfilling the socio-economic aspirations of the people. The progress and prosperity of Goa achieved over the years can be attributed to the atmosphere of peace and harmony prevailing in the state, he said.
The Governor further highlighted that involvement of each one of us is necessary if we wish to defeat corona.
Chief Minister, in his message, said that “inspite of being India’s smallest state by area, Goa’s history is both long and diverse. May 30, is a result of the struggle by Goans to protect their identity as Goans and therefore this day is of
historic importance.”
Chief Minister said Goa has achieved remarkable progress over the last few decades, particularly in core sectors such as education, healthcare, development and infrastructure. The various developmental projects and programmes that are being initiated and implemented by the state is a clear indication that Goa is on the move to achieve greater progress, he said.
Currently Goa is under curfew and the government is taking utmost care and precautions to contain COVID spread, he stated.
The current situation of the pandemic has given rise to various other challenges and the revival of the state’s economy has become the need of the hour. Today the state is fully geared up to meet any challenges of the present and the future, Sawant stated.
