The crime branch police have seized gutka worth around Rs 15 lakh during two separate raids in Ponda and Margao on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
Police said that two separate FIRs have been registered under the relevant sections of the Goa Public Health Act against Pravin Matkar from Ponda and Vaman Fallari from Margao for illegally stocking banned gutka/
tobacco articles.
The raids were conducted, based on source information, by the crime branch teams led by police inspectors Filomena Costa, Laxi Amonkar, Anant Gaonkar and Satish Gawade. The raids were conducted under the supervision of SP Shobhit Saksena.
The crime branch teams simultaneously conducted the raids on two warehouses in Ponda and Margao where gutka/tobacco products were found stocked in large quantities. The articles were seized and are estimated to be valued over Rs 15 lakh, said a senior police officer.
In this connection, the police have registered two FIRs under the relevant sections of the Goa Public Health Act against Pravin Matkar and Vaman Fallari.
