Car hits two scooters, one rider succumbs

Margao: A scooter rider from Colmorod-Navelim, on Friday, died in an alleged hit-and-run case reported near Sirlim bus stop, informed police. Police said that a car involved in this mishap further knocked down another scooter in Cuncolim area.

However, the car driver was detained by Cuncolim police at a nakabandi point.

Police said that two separate offences have been registered against the car driver, identified as Ranjit Naik-one by Margao police under section 304 of IPC for driving in rash and negligent manner and causing death and second offence by Cuncolim police for rash and negligent driving and causing injuries under sections 279 and 337 of IPC. Police said that the alleged accused is from Cuncolim.

According to information available from head constable Babu Gaonker of Margao police station, on Friday evening, while the car was proceeding from Navelim towards Chinchinim, it hit a scooter ridden by Dilip Chawan of Colmorod-Navelim. The accident took place near Sirlim bus stop.

The injured was taken to Margao Hospicio hospital and later shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim where he succumbed to his injuries.

Margao police conducted panchanama and registered a case of accident.

While Cuncolim police head constable Paresh Gaonker said that after committing accident at Sirlim, the car driver came towards Cuncolim area where he knocked down another scooter ridden by Nilesh Gaonker.

Cuncolim police upon information alerted the nakabandi team and the car driver was detained and brought at Cuncolim police station. He was sent for medical examination, the police said.
