CEC recommends scrapping of railway double tracking, using current alignment for 400 KV line & EC for Anmod road widening

Digital Goa, Apr 26 – In a major development, the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has recommended to the Supreme Court the cancellation of double tracking of railways from Tinai Ghat in Karnataka to Vasco. The CEC in it’s report submitted to the apex court has also recommended scrapping of existing alignment of Goa Tamnar 400 KV transmission line cutting through thick forest and instead asked to use existing 110 KV and 220 KV transmission line alignment for setting up 400 KVA line. Sterlite Tamnar has been asked to first put in place the Mapusa-Xeldem connection, then dismantle the 110 and 220 kV lines and use it to put 400 KV line . The CEC further recommended to make Environment Clearance under EIA Notification compulsory for the Mollem to Anmod four lane highway project cutting through Anmod ghat. The CEC has made several recommendations to minimise the impact of the 4 lane highway on the wildlife. The CEC submitted a report on the application filed by Goa Foundation after studying the three linear projects passing through wildlife sanctuaries of Goa and Karnataka. Goa Foundation had alleged violation of Supreme Court order in granting clearance by the standing committee of National Board of Wildlife in respect of three linear projects.
