Residents from surrounding Panaji city, like Merces, Santa Cruz, Chimbel, Old Goa, Taleigao, and Porvorim resorted to panic buying in view of the 4-day lockdown by the government (Thursday 7 pm to Monday 6 am) thinking that the lockdown might be extended to another 15 days.
All the supermarkets and shops dealing in grocery items were seen crowded with mostly women during the morning hours buying in bulk quantity provisional items like atta packets, fovo, rice bags, cereals pulses, biscuits, soaps, butter, milk and all that is required to carry on for a month long period.
There was a long and tedious queue of buyers before the Goa Sahakar Bhandar in the city market, Amit and Ajay whole sale provisional store, Federation of Goa Sahakar Bhandar at Junta House and an unusual rush was also noticed at the grocery shops in the municipal market too.
While long and tedious queues were also seen at farm product stalls, meat, chicken, fish, vegetables stalls, fruit stalls in the Panaji Municipal market for buying basic kitchen products.
There was a huge rush of panic buying customers was also noticed at super markets in Porvorim namely Goa Bagayatdar, Mall de Goa and Delfinos super market on Thursday.
