Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has warned government departments and contractors hired to take up works related to roads to stop the constant digging of roads causing inconvenience to residents and waste of money.
Speaking to media persons at his Navelim office, Faleiro also informed that hotmixing of roads would commence in his constituency. “I have requested the sewerage corporation to finish the sewerage works by the end of this month. The hotmixing of the roads will start from April 5, and work on cleaning the roads has already begun. My request to the PWD, sewerage and JICA corporation also is not to break or dig the roads again. My appeal to the panchayats and PWD is not to allow any destruction of these roads again. I am also warning if anyone breaks the road, the public should file a complaint to the police and necessary FIRs should be filed against such agencies,” he
said.
He further added that Navelim once had some of the best roads in the state but since the work of the laying of sewerage lines began, it has got worse. “Since 2011 around 30 work orders have been issued for contractors from outside the state to lay sewerage pipelines. The agencies were given work orders in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and were to complete the work in 2018 and 2019 but till date they have not been completed. These contractors are responsible for digging up and ruining roads that were hotmixed in five villages of Navelim, Telaulim, Aquem Baixo, Davorlim and housing board. Still there are requests from the sewerage department that they want to be given permissions to break the roads to lay additional sewerage lines or to construct manholes,” said Faleiro.
The MLA said he had raised the issue in the assembly and had spoken to the PWD minister and the chief minister about it, further informing that an amount of Rs 28.4 crore had been sanctioned to repair and restore the remaining roads that were dug up due to the sewerage project.
Luizinho Faleiro said he was deeply saddened with the recent election results but added that the general consensus in his constituency was to allow the family relative of Congress ZP candidate Santarita Babush Coelho who passed away, to be given the ticket.
Responding to questions about the recent political developments in the Congress party, Luizinho said, “I have been in politics for years at the national level also. I have seen politics at the state and national level and I feel sad and bad to see the present situation in the party.”
