Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte, on Wednesday, said that coronavirus does not differentiate between public and private gatherings, and that the Section 144, which is in force in Goa should be applicable throughout the state without any relaxation.
It may be recalled, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had maintained that the Section 144 of CrPC was not applicable to the private gatherings, while speaking about the Holi celebrations held in private hotels in the state.
Khaunte in his twitter message stated, “The sanctity of #Section144 is under question when @DrPramodPSawant openly declares that it is not applicable to gatherings in private properties. Secondly, we are talking about Covid Virus that does not differentiate between public and private gatherings.”
He also retorted in yet another twitter message, “Goa’s Covid positivity rate marked 3rd highest in country but our government is still towing “Bhivpachi garaj na” and inviting disaster. Imploring @goacm to come out of ‘Election Mode’ and act for Goans’ welfare at the earliest.”
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has also criticised the Chief Minister for the spike in COVID-19 cases and said that mere phrases like “Bhivpachi garaj na” do not work.
The AAP Goa convener Rahul Mhambre said that every day more than 100 cases are being detected in Goa thus providing the state with 8 per cent COVID-19 cases, which is higher than the national rate of 5 per cent.
“Goa at present has the fourth highest number of COVID-19 cases and this is not expected when the Chief Minister is from the medical profession,” he stated, adding that the Chief Minister only preaches safeguards and precautions but does not follow them at public functions and places.
