GMC Hospital harvests kidneys and liver of 62-year-old brain dead patient

Digital Goa, Mar 30 – Goa Medical College(GMC) effected organ retrieval and transplant from a brain dead donor under the deceased donor Transplant Programme of SOTTO Goa yesterday. The organs were harvested from a 62-year-old woman who was declared brain dead. She was admitted for subarachnoid haemorrhage and after a clinical diagnosis, was declared brain dead. Her family stepped forward and requested for organ donation of the deceased. Following this both her kidneys and liver were harvested. The kidneys will be transplanted on 2 patients at GMC while the liver will be transplanted to recipients at IKDRC Hospital at Ahmedabad, Gujarat as per the sequential order in the SOTTO ROTTO registry.
