Congress lashes out at govt for cancellation of Shigmo parades

President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Girish Chodankar has accused the BJP government of targeting the Bahujan Samaj again by cancelling the traditional Shigmotsav by citing COVID pandemic.

“Ironically, the irresponsible BJP government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has not restricted itself from organising programmes to project Narendra Modi and BJP,” alleged Chodankar. 

“If the insensitive BJP government is so much concerned about people’s health, and the spread of COVID-19, it could have restricted public movement during Shigmo parades by making arrangements to telecast live Shigmo romtamel and chitrarath parades” he added.

“The photos posted by Chief Minister of meetings with Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, with almost everyone without mask as well as photos of Chief Minister with Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi at the opening of ‘Hunar Haat’ at Kala Academy, Campal-Panaji expose his fake concern for people’s health,” he said.

“The Chief Minister is taking forward the anti-Bahujan Samaj agenda and legacy of former CM Manohar Parrikar. The construction of Parrikar Memorial at Miramar next to the samadhi of the tallest leader of Bahujan Samaj late Bhausaheb Bandodkar is with the same intention of portraying Parrikar above Bandodkar,” he alleged. 

“Shigmotsav is celebrated by the Bahujan Samaj in Goa, and the anti-Bahujan BJP government has selectively targeted the samaj. At the time when the government cancelled traditional programmes like Shigmotsav, in which people of Bahujan Samaj largely participate, it was the duty of this government to cancel all programmes organised at state-level, especially, government events,” he added. 

“BJP government has failed to control influx of tourists. The government is not bothered to control menace created by the irresponsible tourists on Goan beaches. The government wants to put restrictions only on Goans,” he alleged.

“Today, photos shared on social media by renowned artist Subodh Kerkar of some tourists sleeping on beaches using beer bottles as pillows exposes the BJP government’s control on law and order, and failure to protect identity of Goa,” he said. 

“Goans are responsible to take care of their own health. It is only and only because of the failure of the BJP government that COVID cases have increased in Goa from day one. Now, BJP can’t blame and hold Goans and Bahujan Samaj responsible,” he added.
