The High Court of Bombay at Goa has adjourned hearing in a case related to sewage treatment plant at Colva to July 5.
By order dated October 16, 2019, the High Court had issued several directions about several environmental/civic issues concerning the Colva beach and its precincts.
The High Court said, “Neither was any compliance report filed nor was any application made for an extension of time. Therefore, we directed the filing of the compliance report.”
The High Court observed, “The compliance report filed states that the sewerage treatment plant is complete to the extent of 95 per cent and even electrical connection has been obtained and the equipment is being tested. The report, however, states that sewerage lines of 5.5 km are required to be laid, and out of these, sewerage lines to the extent of 2.1 km only have been laid. This means that there is a balance of 3.4 km. By simply referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, the time is sought up to December 31, 2021. According to us, this request is not reasonable. Since, it is claimed that 95 per cent of the plant is already set up and now, only 3.4 km of sewerage lines are to be laid, this work can certainly be completed within 3 months.”
