According to the Deputy Collector Pradeep Naik, COVID-19 cases are rising at an alarming rate in Ponda since the last few days. The taluka presently has 140 active cases.
Taking note of the situation, awareness drives are being conducted by the Ponda police in the town urging people to take necessary precautions.
Of the total cases, the Ponda health centre is handling around 113 cases, while Marcaim
centre is handling around 19 cases. Though the active cases are scattered across Ponda, a micro-containment zone at Kavlem has become a major spot, while Sapna Park area in Ponda can turn into another micro-containment zone if more cases are reported within the building where presently seven cases including a vegetable vendor have been detected, Naik said.
Taking note of the situation in the Sapna Park area, a mass testing drive has been organised on Monday for all the people who may have come in contact with those who have currently tested positive.
