State Biodiversity board signs MoA with ICAR for sharing technology to make taffy from nutmeg pericarp

Digital Goa, Feb 24 – Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) has signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI) for commercialization of the process of manufacturing of Nutmeg Pericarp Taffy. Nutmeg fruit has about 80-85% of pericarp (outer cover of nutmeg fruit) which is generally discarded in the field for rotting. The technology helps in effective utilisation of pericarp, by preparing the Nutmeg Taffy, a value-added food product, in a commercially feasible manner. The product would fetch an additional income to farmers and entrepreneurs apart from the yield of nutmeg spice products- nutmeg seeds and mace. ICAR-CCARI, Goa has already filed an application for patenting this technology.
