Municipal & CCP Polls to be held on March 20, Counting on March 22

Digital Goa, Feb 22 – Polling for 11 municipalities and Corporation of the city of Panaji(CCP) will be held on March 20, Goa State Election Commission(SEC) announced today. Counting will be held on March 22. Total 32,041 voters of CCP and 2,50,470 voters of 11 civic bodies will exercise their franchise.
Ward no 9 of Sakhali municipality and Navelim ZP constituency will also go for Elections on March 20 along with 11 municipalities, and CCP. The voting will be held for the polls from 8 am to 5 pm by following all SOPs related to Covid Pandemic. The last hour i.e. 4pm to 5 pm will be kept for covid positive voters to exercise their franchise.

▪ Scrutiny of nominations – March 5
▪ Last date for withdrawal of nomination – March 6
Many petitioners including opposition parties have moved the High Court regarding reservations and delimitation of wards. “Court will decide on reservation,” said SEC.
With the announcement of the election dates, the Code of conduct comes into effect from today, only in areas where polls are being held. Govt has appointed 21 returning officers ,22 assistant officers, 22 observers and 24 expenditure observers. Voters list has also been displayed. The term of the 11 municipal councils ended in November,2020 after which the government appointed administrators. Ponda and Sakhali municipalities are not going to polls now.
