Will take all-party delegation to meet PM Modi on Mhadei matter if the need be : CM

Digital Goa, Jan 28 – CM Pramod Sawant today assured the house that he will take an all-party delegation to meet PM Modi in the Mhadei water matter if the need be. He also exuded confidence that center will not do injustice to Goa with political motives.CM was speaking on the calling attention raised by the united opposition in the Mhadei charging the govt of adopting a lethargic approach. In his reply to the calling attention CM informed that second contempt petition over illegal water diversion and the SLP challenging the tribunal award were provisionally fixed for hearing in the first week of January,2021 but both did not figure in the final cause list. “We are confident that the case will come for hearing in the next 15 to 20 days,” said CM.
National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) team is scheduled to visit Goa in the last week of February,2021 to monitor the salinity study related observations which are being taken by WRD at 14 locations on the Mhadei and its tributaries since the visit of the NIH team in September 2020. The observation collection will continue till lean season i.e. till May 2021, CM added in his reply. CM admitted that Karnataka had illegally diverted the Mhadei river water without paying heed to SC directions and the award of the Mahadayi Water Dispute tribunal. Urging the opposition to stay united in the battle for Mhadei, CM expressed confidence that the manner in which the case is being presented by the state before the court and tribunal, Goa will win the battle through legal means.
