House witnesses noisy scenes over alleged irregularities in tourism promotion

Digital Goa, Jan 29 – House witnessed heated arguments and noisy scenes over discussion on Domestic and International Tourism Promotional Events today. Dy CM and Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar was grilled by opposition over alleged irregularities in Tourism promotion related activities. Azgaonkar informed the house that govt spent Rs 33.68 crore on road shows and other tourism promotional activities in the last 4 years. “Rs 33 crore is not enough and more funds are needed for effective promotion of tourism,” said Babu. Opposition alleged that lakhs of rupees have not been refunded by event management agencies although the events assigned to them were cancelled due to Covid pandemic. Opposition also questioned as to why pre-audit was not conducted. “We are not doing pre audit of events like road shows,” said Babu. CM Sawant clarified that money of cancelled events has remained with the organisers and not with the event management agency. Azagaonkar said that he is ready for inquiry in the matter. “There is no fault in holding or cancelling events,” he aserted.
