All 3 linear projects required for Goa; We will have to accept SC decision based on CEC’s report -CM

Digital Goa, Jan 29 – All the three linear projects are required for the future of Goa reasserted CM Pramod Sawant. CM was speaking on the private Member resolution by MLAs Vijai Sardesai and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco regarding the projects. Resolution was defeated by 20 versus 11 votes.
Stating that Central Empowered Committee(CEC) has personally monitored the projects and spoken to stakeholders he said, “We will have to accept the report of the SC appointed CEC.”. Goa govt will not allow any increase in coal transportation, he asserted. Some may have problems due to double tracking, but those problems will be sorted out, he added .
Power Minister Nilesh Cabral pitched for the 3 linear projects stating that they are needed for the development of the state and the entire country. The projects are not for coal, he added. PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar claimed that 11.5 Km National Highway will be built as elevated viaduct bridge with minimum cutting of tree , keeping valleys and water sources intact.
Many Opposition and ruling MLAs spoke over the private Member resolution with most opposing the 3 linear projects passing through the Western ghats which is recognised by UNESCO as one of the world’s eight hotspots of biological diversity and a natural heritage site.
