Digital Goa, Dec 30 – One dacoity accused undertrial housed at Colvale State Central jail managed to escape from the clutches of the jail guards while he was taken for treatment at Mapusa Hospital. The absconding jail inmate is identified as Agra native Vivek Kumar Gautam. As per sources, a dramatic escape sequence unfolded in front of the District Hospital at Mapusa yesterday night. Vivek Kumar who was accused of dacoity at Porvorim, was brought to the hospital late night on Tuesday after he complained that he was unwell. While waiting for the vehicle to take them back to jail from the Hospital, he managed to flee himself from the jail guards with the help of 2 of his accomplice who used pepper and chilly spray to keep the guards at bay. The undertrial managed to flee from the spot on the bike of one of his accomplice who fired in the air to create a scare. Police have recovered the used cartridges from the scene. Concerns have been raised as the incident also points to the use of mobile phones within the jail.
