High court stays Goa govt’s cess demand notice to steel firm

The high court of Bombay at Goa has stayed the demand notice issued by the state government to JSW Steel Ltd for payment of Rs 156.3 crore cess under The Goa Rural Improvement and Welfare Cess Act for transportation of coal/coke from Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) The company had approached the high court challenging the show cause notice issued in September this year and also the constitutional validity of the Act. The matter is likely to come for final hearing in December.
