Digital Goa, Apr 29 – Stating that the Labour & Employment Department will be labour and not management friendly under his leadership, Labour and Employment Minister Babush Monserrate today announced a slew of initiatives for the benefit of worker force in the state.
Daily wages to be increased
Wages of daily wage workers in Goa will be increased soon, he announced. Babush said the wages have not been revised for the past 6 years or so. In other states like Kerala and Delhi they are much higher. “We are not even on part with the central govt wages,” he said.
All worker force to be equipped with cards to help them avail welfare schemes
All worker force in the state will be equipped with cards to help them avail the benefit of around 17 welfare schemes. GEL will be assigned the task of making the cards. They will work in sync with the labour department, said the minister.
Labour and employment board to be reconstituted
Labour and Employment Board will be reconstituted, said Babush. The board has members who are there on the board for donkey’s years and some don’t even have their companies anymore, he added.
Private companies will be asked to advertise all their vacancies akin to govt
The Minister said that he has asked the Labour Commissioner to write to all the companies registered with the Labour Dept to advertise their vacancies in a transparent manner as done by the govt. “Goan job seekers should not be deprived of the information about the vacancies in the private companies. They have to advertise in the same way as govt advertises jobs. Of course, the companies can make the selection of the candidate on merit,” said Babush.
