All Goa Marine Life Saving Guards Union on Saturday threatened to hold agitation in all 40 constituencies against the BJP-led government during the 2022 Assembly elections if the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant fails to absorb the lifeguards in the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC) in the next
10 days.

Leader of the union Swati Kerkar addressing a press conference at Azad Maidan in Panaji said  when 200 odd lifeguards who served under government appointed Drishti agency were on hunger strike, Chief Minister had met them and had assured that they would be absorbed in GHRDC; however, till date none of them have been recruited by
the GHRDC.

The lifeguards have been raising their voice for the last one and half year  against Drishti management reportedly over ‘poor pay’ and have been demanding with the government to intervene to regularise their services with enhanced salary or to absorb them in the government setup.

“Following Sawant’s instructions, lifeguards applied for various posts in GHRDC, including security guards and multi-tasking staff. We even submitted the list to the Chief Minister. They recruited a big batch of security guards but none of our people were taken by the government,”
Kerkar said. “Elections are at the corner, and if the government doesn’t fulfil the promise of absorbing the lifeguards in GHRDC then we will hold agitation across 40 constituencies,”
she added.
