Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the state government has decided to test all the international passengers from other countries coming down to Goa at Dabolim airport and Mormugao Port Trust.

Speaking to media after holding a high-level meeting at Altinho over COVID management in wake of Omicron threat, the Chief Minister said  the state government has decided to take all the precautions to contain spread of the new variant of the
virus.

He said the officials of the Goa airport and MPT were also present for the meeting and the directions have been given to them to put in place required facilities for testing of all international travelers on arrival in the state.

“Those arriving from the 12 countries where new COVID-19 variant Omicron has been detected, will have to  undergo 14 days institutional quarantine while other international passengers will have to undergo self-isolation,” he said, adding the state government will follow new guidelines issued by the central government.

Sawant further said, “The physical classes for the students from Std VII and above will continue as it is.”

He said the state government would wait for the central goverment’s decision on charter flights operations as Goa was a tourist state.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who also attened the meeting, said the detailed deliberation was held about putting in place testing facilities for international travelers coming down to Goa.
