Old Goa: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amit Palekar started his fast unto death on Monday over the illegal structure under construction at the global heritage area and protected monument site at Old Goa.
Addressing the media, at Old Goa the AAP leader Palekar said he has taken the decision to go on a hunger strike to preserve Goenkarponn, Goa and to protect the heritage site for posterity and “this hunger strike would continue till the government takes firm steps to revoke all the permissions granted to build the illegal structure.”
“This strike has got nothing to do with the AAP, and I am sitting here as a Goan. Instead of branding my fast as politically motivated, let these people from Congress, Revolutionary Goans and Goa Forward Party come forward and join me. People talk across the table but instead of talking they should come here and join me,” he said
“If I am sitting here for Goa and Goans, and even if I am sitting here as AAP member why somebody should have a problem?” he said.
“Once I know the government has started the process of demolition by way of issuing notices or order by the concerned departments, I will withdraw my fast. At present, I am the only one person sitting on a fast. There are a lot of people sitting here in my support,” he said.
“I think one sacrifice is enough. Others are coming here to support me by sacrificing their time, and their efforts in my support are more than enough,” he added.
