The village panchayat of Carmona has written to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat asking for clarity on the source of funds for a fogging machine that was given to the panchayat by the Benaulim ZP member. The decision to write to the ZP came after members of the gram sabha raised the issue.
Speaking about the issue, village sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said, “There was confusion among the panchayat members and also at the gram sabha due to conflicting reports stating that the fogging machine was donated by a political party to the panchayat. After discussion it was resolved by the gram sabha to write to the South Goa ZP authorities to clarify on the source of funds for the machine.”
Gram sabha members took a resolution at the recent meeting to also write to the Chinchinim PHC to clarify if their NOC was mandatory to undertake any fogging operations either by the panchayat or individuals.
“The issue of fogging was hotly discussed at the last gram sabha as some political parties and individuals were doing fogging operations in the village without informing the panchayat or getting approval from the health authorities. It was also resolved not to allow anyone in the village to conduct any fogging operations without the permissions from the panchayat and health authorities,” said Jorge.
