GMC hospital surroundings cry for attention

Coconut shells, plastic bottles, food containers thrown outside hospital

Panaji: Goa’s premiere health institute Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim is more prone to vector borne diseases as there are discarded coconut shells, plastic bottles, plastic sheets, plastic food containers, tea cups and others providing  easy ground for larva breeding.

Medical students, professionals and patients face a lot of inconvenience once they find free access to all the wards of GMC and after the sun sets this menace has no limits and as such many patients prefer to light mosquito coils, use mosquito creams and mosquito nets.

Medical staffers want health officers from Curca and Santa Cruz village panchayat to conduct a survey and carry out anti-dengue larva treatment like Panaji Urban Health Centre did by visiting the spots outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.

They want the debris and garbage left behind after demolition of illegal kiosks and gaddas should be cleared off as there are discarded coconut shells, plastic sheets, plastic food containers thrown in the open and lying unattended which are likely to give rise to dengue fever, malaria fever or Japanese encephalitis breeding ground.

Besides there is always waterlogging for days together in the subway and motorists, 2-wheeler riders, pedestrians, medical students and medical staff while passing from one block to the other face a lot of inconvenience.

On Friday at around 11 am there was lot of waterlogging on the road next to the subway due to which two-wheeler riders faced a lot of hurdles while crossing the patch of road.

They felt that authorities need to attend to the problems faced by the medical staff, medical professionals, patients and visitors who have been suffering silently for a very long time.
