Strewn garbage, potholed road an eyesore in Chimbel

Chimbel: Village panchayat of Chimbel is doing its best to maintain cleanliness but the residents refuse to pay heed to the instructions of the panchayat and as such there is always filth, garbage strewn everywhere and waterlogging during monsoon, revealed a member of village development committee.

Three points of the village entry greet visitors with sights of waterlogging, garbage spread all over the road just outside the garbage collection shed and potholed road at Indira Nagar.

Shopkeepers, vegetable-fruit vendors and pedestrians face the brunt of the potholed road as dirty water gets splashed on them whenever a vehicle zooms past.

Motorists are also suffering as the gaping potholes on the road stretch near India Nagar are causing problems of vehicle wear and tear.

“No one is bothered to undertake work of pothole repairs,” said a local.

The member of development committee informed that few gutters were cleaned up just before the onset of monsoon, however, people keep discarding garbage in the gutters in the garb of darkness and as a result of which, the waterways get clogged.

It is often seen that stray animals and birds feast on the garbage strewn outside the collection shed and this garbage also gets flowed onto the road with rain water, he added.

“Sometimes during heavy rains, people avoid coming out of their homes to dump garbage in allotted bins and end up discarding the garbage just outside their dwellings thinking that it will get washed away with rains,” revealed the member.

The development committee member also blamed the residents stating that despite introducing door-to-door garbage collection system, people were resorting to dumping garbage either on the road or in the gutters or just outside the garbage collection shed, thereby defeating the efforts to keep the village clean.
