Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday inspected the super-speciality block (SSB) of Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
The initial plan of the government is to commission the SSB with 150 ICU beds equipped with medical oxygen which will be utilised for treating critical COVID-19 patients.
“All the equipment will be procured at the earliest & in the next two-three days we will ensure we have enough oxygen and beds are commissioned. Other facilities will include housekeeping, requisitioned staff & a facility management agency on board in order to back up operations,” Rane tweeted.
During his visit to the SSB, Dean of GMC Dr S M Bandekar and other officials briefed the Health Minister on the progress of work.
“The Sodexo team will also be helping us with setting up proper nutrition for patients. We are working towards ensuring we commission the facility at the earliest,” Rane added.
Citizens face issues as vaccine registration for those above 18 yrs opens
Panaji: The registration for citizens in the age group of 18 to 44 years for vaccination started on Wednesday evening on the CoWIN portal, however, people in the particular age group despite completing the registration process could not book slots (appointment for vaccination) as no vaccination centre was available for booking.
This is mainly because neither the Goa government nor the private facilities in the state have managed to buy the vaccine doses.
“Appointment for (those) aged 18 to 44 is based on slots made available by the private vaccination centres as well as the respective state government. If slots are not currently available, it will be opened soon. Please check again in sometime. We regret the inconvenience,” reads the message displayed on the registration page of the CoWIN portal.
The registration and also the booking of slots continued to be open for beneficiaries aged 45 and above.
Director of health services, Dr Jose De Sa, on Tuesday, had informed that the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), which manufacturers ‘Covishield’ vaccine, has not confirmed as to when they can supply the required vaccine doses to the state government.
