The Indian Medical Association’s Goa branch has urged the government to further extend lockdown in the state either for a period of 15 days from May 3, 2021 or till the positivity rate comes down to 10 per cent.

The IMA stated that the health care system can manage a lower positivity rate and decrease the mortality rate and reduce the tremendous workload on the health care
system.

The state on Thursday recorded a positivity rate of 51.08 per cent, and on Friday the transmission rate recorded was 44.75 per cent.

In a statement issued here, IMA state president Dr Vinayak Buvaji said that further extending the lockdown is the need of the hour in order to break the chain of transmission of the dreaded COVID-19.

“Everyone has been making a provision and made a provision for minimal liveability. With these massively increasing COVID-19 numbers the mindset of the public is already primed for acceptance of a lockdown. On the contrary, people are on a back foot to be in the public places with acceptance,” reads the statement issued by IMA.

The IMA has urged the government to consider their request.
