Digital Goa, Apr 27 – In order to reduce the mortality rate from the highly infective double mutant strain of Covid prevailing in the state, Goa government has announced a new treatment protocol for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients who are awaiting reports after testing. All those who come for testing will be given basic medicines such a paracetamol, Ivermectin and doxycycline and a pamphlet with instructions by DHS. Those who are symptomatic will be asked to start with the medication immediately while those who are asymptomatic will be asked to take the medicines only if they get symptoms. “As the double mutant strain has high infectivity and progression of disease is very fast, early medication will help in reducing severity and prevent the patient from going into a critical stage. The protocol is in consultation with senior health experts,” informed GMC Dean Dr Bandekar. The new protocol will be implemented from tomorrow.
Informing that reports backlog has been reduced to 1,600 with govt tying up with private agency Thyrocare, Health Minister informed that 5 more testing machines will be procured soon.
