Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant appealed to the Zilla Panchayat and village panchayat members to encourage the people in their areas to go for COVID-19 testing if they have symptoms and also to get admitted in the hospitals without delay.
Interacting with the panchayat members through virtual mode on Wednesday, Sawant also asked them to raise awareness on coronavirus among the people and reach out to those who need help in these pandemic times.
While appreciating the efforts of the elected representatives of local self-governing bodies, the Chief Minister sought their cooperation to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Right now our focus is to reduce the mortality rate. We have observed that most of the people who lost the battle to the dreaded virus were admitted to the hospitals very late. Therefore, I request all of you to see that symptomatic people do not stay at home for long and get admitted to the hospital for further treatment in time,” he said.
Sawant further appealed to the panchayat members to ensure that all the standard operating procedures and COVID-19 protocols like wearing of mask, maintaining social distancing, sanitising hands were followed by the people in their respective wards.
The Chief Minister said that the village panchayat and Zilla Panchayat members can play an important role in providing all the basic facilities to the villagers under Swayampurna Goa initiative and make villages self-reliant for essential commodities.
