The authorities descended on the city fish market Thursday morning and created awareness amongst the fish vendors and the general public and urged them to follow strictly the SOPs to save their lives as well as protect the lives of their customers.
The city mayor, Rohit Monserrate accompanied by the Commissioner of Corporation of City of Panaji, Sanjit Rodrigues and the Panaji town police inspector, Sudesh Naik besides policemen came to the fish market and after surveying that there is an urgent need to follow social distancing brought the fish vendors out of the market shed and made them sit in the hot sun by following social distancing in between the Dempo House and farm products lane of the municipal market. This was done so that the Covid SOPs are followed by vendors and by people buying the fish.
The authorities assured the fish vendors that the fish market will not be closed due to Covid as it comes under essential services either for conducting business or for customers but will remain open throughout but all the Covid norms should be followed strictly.
The police inspector urged them to follow all Covid norms like use of sanitisers, use of complete face masks, and observe social distancing all the time while conducting the business since the positive cases and deaths are rising due to Covid-19 in the state.
He said if the customers are not using face masks or not maintaining social distance, then it is their duty to bring this discipline in the market and conduct business by saving their lives and protecting the lives of their customers.
