3,024 new COVID-19 cases recorded in state

Goa continues to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases as 3,024 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Friday, pushing the tally of active cases to 22,945.

The positivity rate continues to remain on a higher side as 44.75 per cent of the total samples tested in the last 24 hours were found to be positive for the dreaded virus.

The death toll associated with the disease reached 1,168 as more 22 people succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

Friday’s COVID-19 fatalities, include a 58-year-old man from Cuncolim who had taken the first dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine.

The fatalities also include six patients who died within 24 hours after being brought to the hospital; there was also a patient who was brought dead to the COVID facility.   

The commercial capital of the state, Margao achieved a grim milestone of 2,000 active cases.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 91,052, of which 66,939 patients have defeated the deadly disease, which also include 955 COVID patients, who have been declared as recovered in the last 24 hours.

According to the DHS, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of other urban health centres stand as follows: Margao – 2,133 cases, Vasco – 800 cases, Panaji- 1,476 and Mapusa – 1,143 cases.

While active positive cases in the jurisdictions of community health centres are as follows: Sankhali – 784 cases, Bicholim – 924 cases, Pernem – 579 cases, Valpoi – 380 cases, Curchorem – 519 cases and Canacona – 448 cases.

And, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of primary health centres stand as follows: Aldona – 467 cases, Betki – 321 cases, Cansarvanem – 104 cases, Colvale – 416 cases, Corlim – 464 cases, Chimbel – 738 cases, Siolim – 707 cases, Porvorim- 1,431 cases, Mayem – 240 cases,  Balli – 482 cases, Cansaulim – 886 cases, Chinchinim – 317 cases, Cortalim – 1,492 cases, Curtorim – 382 cases, Loutolim – 403 cases, Marcaim – 306 cases, Quepem – 328 cases, Sanguem – 238 cases, Shiroda- 410 cases, Dharbandora – 452 cases, Ponda – 1,325 cases and Navelim – 323 cases.

The April month proved to be deadly for Goa as it recorded 33,013 COVID-19 cases and 338 deaths linked to the virus. A total of 30.52 per cent of the samples tested in April were found to be positive for the contagious virus. The recovery rate recorded in the particular month was just 34.18 per cent.
