Divided Tunes: Dhargal villagers split over hosting Sunburn EDM Festival

Dec 1 – Dhargal residents are divided over hosting the Sunburn EDM Festival, with both supporters and opponents holding meetings today. Tensions escalated as police issued notices under Section 168 of BNSS to some opposing villagers, further fueling the controversy.
▪ Police issue notice to several Pernem locals to desist from opposing Sunburn EDM
Several persons opposing the Sunburn Festival at Dhargal in Pernem were issued notices under section 168 of BNSS by Pernem Police Station PI asking them to refrain from assembling, gathering or creating ‘unlawful’ assembly at Dhargal today to oppose the EDM Festival. Stating that the police have credible belief or information that they or their friends or colleagues may get involved in such activities, the notice had warned that cognizable offence would be registered against them if they do not desist from doing so. Further they were also directed to appear at Pernem Police Station today afternoon.
▪ Villagers group led by local MLA protests near Panchayat
Irked villagers however continued with their protest as per the plan. Several locals led by local MLA Pravin Arlekar gathered near the Dhargal panchayat and protested against the proposed EDM Festival.
▪ EDM supporting group led by Sarpanch holds show of strength meeting
Large group of villagers along with Dhargal Sarpanch, panch members and ZP member held a meeting at Dhargal in support of Sunburn EDM Festival in their village.
