Panaji: The All India Trinamool Congress party has said it will contest all the 40 seats in the upcoming Goa legislative assembly elections in 2022 and there will be no high command culture in the party.
The party has also ruled out forging a pre-poll alliance with any other political party for the upcoming assembly elections.
Addressing the media in Panaji on Thursday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro said candidates of the party for the upcoming assembly elections will be finalised after conducting a survey in all the constituencies.
“Goa has been suffering and there was no opposition to BJP in the state for the last ten years. Goa needs change and a formidable alternative in the form of TMC, which can fight the BJP,” he said.
A day after joining TMC, Faleiro expressed that he felt renewed hope and enthusiasm to be able to effectively serve Goans. He said the Goa TMC will contest all the 40 assembly seats and not go in for a pre-poll alliance with any political party in the state.
“If there is one beacon of hope in the country today who has successfully defeated the BJP and their dangerous brand of divisive politics, it is Mamata Banerjee. I feel reinvigorated today that there is a new hope for the people of Goa, for our youth, for our women, for our economy, for our environment and for our identity as Goans,” he said.
The veteran politician stated that the essential spirit of secularism is being threatened by the divisive forces that are controlling India from the Centre and the need of the hour is to find a credible, formidable and reliable alternative for people across India.
“West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is humble and I have never seen such humility, simplicity and sincerity in any of the leaders in the country. She has clearly told us that there will be no high command culture in Goa TMC. Mamata Didi said Goans will be high command and she will be a worker for the people of Goa,” he said.
Faleiro said several distinguished Goans have already expressed their interest to join the Goa TMC family and this trend will only grow in the days to come. “A new dawn is here for Goans. And with this new dawn, I am confident that the destiny of all of India is going to be written right here in our Goa,” he added.
The former chief minister further said that Goa TMC leaders will travel across the state, to every nook and corner to take the message of a new dawn to the masses. He said the leaders will also be hearing from every Goan about their aspirations for the state. “TMC is a new movement in Goa. Therefore, I appeal to all the Goans to join this movement,” he added.
When asked about Congress party, Faleiro said there are enough friends within the party to pull each other and added that the party does not require any external enemy to defeat it.
Former MLA and TMC leader Lavoo Mamledar said 75 per cent of Goa’s population does not want BJP to rule again in the state. “Mamata Banerjee is a bold leader and always fights for the common man. Goans should join TMC to make this movement big to defeat BJP,” he said.
Yatish Naik said BJP has manufactured many problems in Goa through its bad governance and wrong policies. “TMC is a credible alternative, which Goans have been searching for a long time,” he said.
Trinamool Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, TMC Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha Sukhendu Roy, MP Prasun Banerjee and West Bengal Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Manoj Tiwary were also present during the press conference.
