Margao: South Goa Member of Parliament (MP) Francisco Sardinha on Thursday said he is sad that former Congress leader and ex-Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has quit the party to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.
He said that the move, however, will not dent the Congress party’s efforts to strengthen itself to contest the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons at the Congress district office in Margao, Sardinha said he was especially sad with Faleiro’s exit since he had helped him win the parliamentary election.
“This trend of quitting party to join another is not new. This time it was a sitting MLA who quit and we are sad about it, especially me because he had helped me win the MP elections. One must understand that a leader is made by the party workers and the voters who vote for him. So I ask the voters and the workers not to be discouraged by this but to continue strengthening the party,” he said. He went on to say that the Congress had done a lot for the state, from liberation to forming a state and recognising the state language. He said the upcoming assembly election should be about making the party win and not looking at interests of individuals.
“Parties like AAP and TMC will turn Goa into a carnival and come only for a few days. There are individuals who go into hibernation and come out only before elections. Congress did a lot for Goa and we ask the people to be with us this election,” said Sardinha.
The MP also reiterated his demand to ensure India- made COVID vaccines are recognised in other countries. Sardinha said the government staff employed on contract basis for more than five years should be regularised. He also appealed to the state government to repair bad, potholed roads and called for better traffic management at the Cortalim junction, which has been witnessing long traffic jams recently.
