Old Goa police team is in Kolkata to trace and arrest Gajanan Pawar (62) in connection with the alleged murder of Joseph Dias (54) from Old Goa.

The police said that Dias died while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College (GMC) on September 20, owing to the injuries he suffered during the alleged assault on September 3  evening outside a supermarket, at Old Goa, located along the Old Goa-Panaji bypass road.

Pawar allegedly assaulted Dias over some petty arguments, the police said.

According to the police, alleged accused Pawar assaulted Dias with a fist blow on his left side of the face, and  as a result, he fell down on the ground and sustained grievous head injury.

There is also a CCTV footage of the incident, the police said.

In this connection, the Old Goa police had registered FIR against Pawar for allegedly causing grievous hurt, which is a bailable offence.

Dias was admitted at the GMC on September 3, and while undergoing treatment he succumbed to the injuries on September 20, the police said.

However, a couple of days back, the accused fled his residence at Old Goa and is not traceable.

The alleged accused is said to be in Kolkata and as such a police team from Old Goa police station was sent to Kolkata to trace and arrest him.

Meanwhile, the family members of Dias have cried foul over the alleged insensitive nature of the police investigation, and the delay in arresting the alleged accused in the case.
