Says he has no intention of joining TMC
Margao: Former minister Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco, on Thursday, said that a handful of senior Congress leaders were misleading the party’s central leaders, and added that he had no intention of joining the TMC.
Without taking names, Pacheco said there were a handful of party leaders who were only looking at personal gains and “are misleading central party leaders.”
Speaking to media persons in Margao, Pacheco said, “There are a handful of senior leaders, who are in the party for personal gains, and not working for the party. They are not allowing those who want to do work for the party either and are only misguiding the top leaders like Chidambaram. To these leaders, I would like to say that they should stop misguiding and misleading the party high command.”
He said that he had himself informed the party observers, who were in the state, but added that he also wanted the general public to be aware of what was going on in the party.
Pacheco also denied the rumours that he too, like Luizinho Faleiro, may join the TMC.
“There are rumours doing the rounds that if my wife and I are given tickets to contest, that I would also join the TMC. These are all false, and I have no intention of doing anything like that. Leaders like Faleiro could not prosper in the Congress party but if we follow suit, our political careers will be over,” he said.
On the issue of an alliance, Pacheco said that he believed the party could contest all 40 seats on its own without the need for any other party.
He also added that he would contest the 2022 elections.
“Back in 2016, the AAP had come to split the secular votes, this time, it is the TMC. I have requested the party to decide the candidates for the elections beforehand so they can start the work. I will be contesting the elections in 2022, and I think Congress is a strong party and can contest all 40 seats on its own,” said Pacheco.
