Two councillors from Model Margao group led by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, on Thursday, expressed their resentment over being ignored for the chairperson’s post.

Lyndon Pereira from Fatorda Forward, led by Vijai Sardesai, was elected as chairperson with the consensus of Kamat and Sardesai.

Ghaneshyam Shirodkar and Damodar Shirodkar, loyalists of Kamat, on Thursday, spoke openly against Kamat alleging that he did not take them into confidence while selecting the candidatures for the chairperson and vice chairperson’s posts.

“He never consulted us despite being senior councillors and we always stood by him. I have fixed a meeting with my voters on Saturday. As per their wish, I will take a decision whether to remain with Kamat or not,” Damodar said, when asked whether he will continue his loyalty with Kamat.

Ghaneshyam, who was the former chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, said that “Kamat has let down the people of Margao yet again. I strongly condemn the decision of Kamat of sidelining us.”

Kamat, however, tried to downplay the issue saying that he would talk to the two councillors and try to resolve the misunderstanding.
