Margao: The Chinchinim village panchayat has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to vaccinate the seafarers aged between 18-44 years on priority as they risk losing their employment.
Chinchinim sarpanch Inacina Rebelo has forwarded a resolution passed by the village panchayat body which was moved by deputy sarpanch Valentino Baretto stating that a large population from Chinchinim working on ships are at risk of losing employment over not being vaccinated.
The panchayat has sought a special Tika Utsav for seafarers so that they can resume duty. The panchayat has sought intervention of the chief minister and health minister to consider the request in the interest of the seafarers.
The panchayat has pointed out that the director general of shipping has already given approval but the state is lagging behind in the vaccination and hoped for a solution which will save the livelihood of the seafarers.
