Digital Goa, Jan 22- New amendments to Lokayukta act will not make the institution of Lokayukta weak asserted CM Pramod Sawant today. The amendments are primarily related to eligibility criteria, he said. “New Lokayukta will be appointed within next one and half to two months,” he informed. The cabinet in its meeting held on Wednesday had approved nine amendments to the Goa Lokayukta Act 2011. Serious concerns have been raised by citizens regarding the new amendments which have been brought in on the backdrop of several adverse reports given by former Goa Lokayukta P K Misra pinpointing the downsides in the functioning of the government. Activists have alleged that the new amendments are an attempt to dilute the Act to control the functioning of the institution of Lokayukta and make it accountable to the people whom it is supposed to investigate.
